Every Doll Needs A Home

Clipart from Clipartheaven.com

Like us and all the animals in the shelter, dolls need a home, too.

It's that time of year again when The Salvation Army Evangeline Booth Miracle Home is seeking donations of handcrafted dolls to auction off for their emergency homeless shelter. I participated in this one year when I had an overflow of dolls; and, I can't express enough how appreciative they were to receive my donations. The people I spoke with were so warm, engaging, and especially helpful when answering all the questions I had...and I had a bunch. I'm very selective about the charities I participate in.

Personally, I enjoy making dolls but decided a few years ago to release my works instead of holding onto them. There will always be a few pieces in my home; however, most of my art dolls are adopted out to new families. After awhile of creating them, you acquire a stock pile of your work; and, I couldn't really appreciate the finished pieces as much. In my studio alone, there's a stock pile of everything just to make them! It was, and still sometimes is, difficult to part with them; but, I see it more as a growing period - one which allows me to broaden my skills and move on to my next piece.

If you are interested in donating some handcrafted dolls, whether or not you made them, you can contact them at this link:

The fundraiser is being held on Thursday, September 24, 2009 in Schenectady, NY. So, they will need to receive your dolls before then.
